At the turn of the twentieth century, the Theosophical Society was looking for the new World Teacher, someone like the Buddha or the Christ. Charles Leadbeater thought he might have found such a person when he discovered Krishnamurti, but The Order of the Star was dissolved by Krishnamurti himself about the time Sebatiao Mota de Melo was born in Brazil. Interestingly the new Temple in Mapia, Brazil is crowned by a Star. Star Works are ceremonies conducted around a six pointed Star shaped table. Alex Polari de Alverga’s account of Sebastiao’s life in his book Forest of Visions: Ayahuasca, Amazonian Spirituality, and the Santo Daime Tradition, (1999) is a remarkable story of the man who remembered being the reincarnation of St. John the Baptist. The Christ consciousness hid itself in the plants of the Amazon Rain Forest where they are brewed and drunk ceremonially as Santo Daime, the Holy Give Me.
